Telephone Access / Electronic Communication

GP's in this practice may be contacted during normal opening hours.  If the GP is with a patient, a message will be taken and the reception staff will advise you when it is likely that the GP will return your call.  In an emergency your call will always be put through to a GP.  This practice does don't accept any form of electronic communication (e.g. email, sms, txt, Facebook or Twitter).

 

Reminder System

Our practice is committed to preventative care.  Your doctor will seek your permission to be included on our reminder system.  We may issue you with a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventative health services appropriate to your care. If you do not wish to be a part of this system please let your doctor or receptionist know.

Personal Health Information

Your details, medical records and consultations within this practice are kept strictly confidential.  Your personal health information is only accessed by authorised staff and will not be released without your written consent.  Only de-identified data may be used for research purposes.  During the Accreditation process, medical records are randomly selected by a GP for quality assurance purposes.  If you do not wish for your record to be accessed please inform the doctor.  We abide by the 13 National Privacy Principles.

 

Fees and Bill

Fees are payable at the time of consultation by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, Bankcard, MasterCard, Visa and American Express.  However for those who are on a limited budget and do receive a pension this payment has been reduced.  
You can provide us with your bank's BSB number and an account number to enable your refund to be deposited back into your bank in three working days.
The AMA structure forms the basis of our billing policy and is displayed at the front desk in the reception area of the practice.  If you have any difficulties paying the fees, please discuss it with us.

 

Visits

Home visits are provided where there is a difficulty in the patient being able to attend the practice.  During a session a doctor will travel within a 5km radius of the practice to attend an ill patient.  If a patient lives outside this boundary or the doctors are unable to attend a locum may be requested to attend on your behalf, however the locum service does not begin until 6:00pm weekdays.

Nursing Home or other institutional visits are provided as a routine or when requested by the client or carer.

The doctors a accredited to admit clients at most of the metropolitan Private Hospitals and care for them with or without specialist intervention.

Appointments

Consultations are generally made by appointment.  At the time of making the appointment the receptionist will make an enquiry as to the complexity of the problem and will allocate the appropriate time necessary.

All efforts are made to ensure clients are seen on the day of contact or as deemed necessary.  All efforts are made so that the client sees the doctor of choice.

Provision is made in the appointment system for emergency consultations.

It is practice policy that the doctors do not consult over the phone except in medical emergencies.  Even seemingly simple problems may have complicating factors which can not be accurately assessed at a distance.  Doctors are legally accountable for all opinions given, including those given by phone.  Patient are encouraged to make an appointment to discuss results or any other problems.

Complaints

If you have a problem with any member of the staff, including a doctor, please feel free to use either the suggestion box in the waiting room, or you may speak to me personally in the practice at any time.  If you wish to make a complaint in writing please address it to the Practice Manager and it will be dealt with accordingly and please be assured that it is practice policy to reply to all correspondence.

Results

Your doctor will advise you when they expect results to arrive at the practice.  Please make an appointment with reception to correspond with this time.

Repeat Prescriptions and Referrals

Regular medications can be usually be obtained on prescription for several months at a time.  In this situation we believe it is good medical practise if you make an appointment with your doctor when obtaining repeat prescriptions to review results and reconfirm the need for continuation of the treatment.  This policy applies to referrals to specialists and allied health professionals.

There is a 24 hour care seven days a week provided by this practice.  Service is obtained by telephoning the practice number where the call will be diverted to the Doctor's personal mobile phone.

The doctor will personally deal with each call and either consult with the client or make other arrangements.

There is a Locum Service backup service availably telephoning 137425.

There is an arrangement with Wakefield Hospital Emergency Centre.  The emergency centre is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. A substantial fee does occur when visiting this centre to be paid in full on the day.

There is also an arrangement with St Andrews Hospital AAU where patients can attend in and out of hours staffed by experienced Medical Practitioners.  The Acute Assessment Unit is open from 8:00am to 10:00pm 7 days a week.

Please telephone (08) 8408 2222 or attend at 350 South The, Adelaide.  There is a Medicare benefit payable to cover part of the service however a substantial fee will be charged.

Admission to Private or Public Hospitals can be arranged by this practice at all times or through St Andrews AAU or Wakefield Emergency.
